How to clean and care for a silicone or TPE body so it lasts
Cleaning, drying, powder and storage: the routine that extends the life of a silicone or TPE figure and prevents stains and odors.
The principle: gentle, quick and dry
Almost all damage comes from three things: harsh cleaning products, trapped moisture and poor storage. Avoid those three and the material lasts for years.
Cleaning, step by step
Use warm (not hot) water and a mild, unscented soap, or a cleaner made for these materials. Avoid alcohol, solvents and oil-based products: they dry out or warp the surface.
Rinse thoroughly with no soap left, pat dry with a clean towel without rubbing, and let it air-dry completely before storing.
Powder: what it's for
On TPE, a thin layer of the powder the manufacturer recommends removes the tacky feel and protects the surface. Avoid talc; many people use fine cornstarch, but always follow the brand's guidance. Silicone usually doesn't need it.
Storage
Keep the figure away from direct sun and heat, somewhere dry, not leaning on sharp edges or dark fabrics that can stain it. Change its position now and then so no area gets marked.
A light cloth cover or a lined box solves most problems and adds discretion.
What to avoid
Extreme heat (hair dryer, sun inside a car), silicone-based lubricant on silicone, dark clothing on light TPE, and pulling on seams. Repair is possible but costly: prevention is far cheaper.
